A few tips here regarding perimeter security including some we have undertaken at home, applying some applications as generally used back home in South African but not including those of lethal force and alas no armed private security response.
The idea. To monitor outer / street view and the immediate home perimeter.
Likely Risks
Intergration with other security
Visual Monitoring
Persistant alarm monitoring
Ready to deploy static barriers
Installation
Law
1. Outer Zone
The street. Loop recording covert CCTV which can be real time monitored via monitor (which is generally off) should situation require it. Camera mounted indoors in window
2. To make access into your inner perimeter as difficult a possible using ready to deploy static protections coupled with alarm and monitoring
Here are a few methods, the best forms for you will obviously be dependant on your type of property. As an all walled property, the only outside observation of our protectives are the recommended razor wire signage
Steel framed front gate / entrance, the original was in state of collapse when we moved in so a replacement upgrade was needed anyway. CCTV, camera through window covertly covering street / gate outside
with a visible camera at the front and rear/garden of house. A back up CCTV 'door/gate viewer' built into our bell
Razor wire has now since been fitted inside top of walls, this is not visible from the street but is cautioned with appropriate signage outside
The razor wire is linked directly to the home alarm system utilising the alarms anti tamper circuit it remains monitored 24 hours, an easy enough addition using tilt switches, i did test a shock/trembler switch first switch but found 'twanging' the wire mostly failed alarm activation.
One of the sensors fitted to the wire.
Wall spikes are fitted inside at an angle while the top of wall itself is painted with an anti climb paint, this does not last forever and has to be reapplied so a tin kept for a 'scenario' is probably better, it's not cheap either. Link regarding anti climb paint below, shop around though regards pricing, yes it is good.
Legal ? Whilst not illegal you should adhere to relevant acts and common sense to allay any possible chance of having legal proceedings or problems brought against you if someone became injured from your protectives. Please make yourself aware of the following acts:
1. Highways Act 1980 section 154
2. Highways Act 1980 section 164
3. Occupiers Liability Act 1957
4. Occupiers Liability Act 1984

CCTV
We have three cameras. Street, front and rear of house. Shown below a simple fit model being wireless, a good alternative to running wires.
To covertly cover the street view outside mount in the corner of a window, if the IF feature gives reflection problems remove the cameras glass to solve.
Power cut ? Simple plug and play 12v supplied CCTV cameras are simple enough to power using a 12 V portable supply, make up a few leads to be ready for such. A basic portable caravan T.V can be used as a monitor and only when needs require to conserve power. Below CCTV covering the back.
LIGHTING
Solar powered security lighting front and back.
Switchable mains static lighting
Perimeter alarm. A simple alarm that will alert you to outer perimeter intrusion day or night. Basically a PIR switched to test mode (24 hours) connected to an internal switchable buzzers. Commercially ready to use models are available.
MAINS ELECTRICITY. UNLESS YOU ARE SURE ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING DO NOT CONTEMPLATE.
A commercial unit PIR outdoor alarm.
Once you have covered your outer and immediate perimeter consider having planning in place for securing the inner (home) space in times of severity, separate article to come in due course.
Razor wire
You can have cuts stored and ready to apply to certain areas in times of severe unrest etc.
Budget static security ? Beware of dog, alarm and CCTV signage. Consider a large dogs water bowl outside even if you have no dog (the birds will appreciate it) a dog lead in the porch perhaps, several pairs of used large size mens boots, dummy CCTV, alarm bell box on the wall, lot's of cheaper options available given some thought.
