DOGS AND PREPPING

What breed of dog is best for prepping ? or rather which type are you prepared to give a home to for life, love, feed, walk, pay veterinary bills or insurance and welcome into the family.

Many people have a favourite breed or an idea of what they would prefer. We have two Staffordshire Bull Terriers and a Rottweiler, none of which we have for the purpose of protection, sure they appear intimidating and i wouldn't want to be a burglar or attacker unfortunate enough to meet them but they are family members, anything else is a bonus.

Any dog regardless of breed can introduce an additional element of security to the home whether it's Chiwawa or Doberman, for example a barking frenzy in the middle of the night could prove a lifesaver if it alerts you to likely home invasion or other impending threat.

Civil defence planning includes emergency rest centres in times of disaster, they are not necessarily obligated to take in or care for pets although some do. Be aware of your local planning. Example of one towns planning measures regarding pets below. Consider an emergency pet kit containing food, any medications needed etc.

When a dog isn't enough, get a cat

Remember, a dog is for life, it will take commitment, time and money. It will in return give you love, affection and loyalty which should be rightly returned.
