WINDOW RESTRICTOR

The window restrictor, this particular one being more of a safety feature as opposed to security however a locking steel wired restrictor fitted to allow minimal opening could indeed prove a good idea during the hotter weather whilst indoors especially if used with a cheap 'stick up' stand alone magnet type battery alarm, this can be placed in relation to activate upon window movement whilst open so allowing a gap, you can increase / decrease alarm trigger mounting on a small piece of wood, ( higher up or further into frame depending on window opening) makes alarm inaccessible from outside.  Adding a magnetic sensor to a suitable zone of your security alarm is also an option, again with the gap consideration.

Numerous restrictors are readily available from hardware outlets, Ebay etc.

Securing a top bedroom window in a kids room. Remember to keep the key accessible and ensure everyone knows it's location Be it a top or ground floor window.

For emergencies you can buy dedicated key storage units, making one is not really cheaper though, i used an old yogurt tub and sprayed it.

Add some luminous tape, stick replacement 'break glass' to lid.
Yes in an emergency the cable can indeed be cut via rescuer from outside, with more solid sash fit window preventives a car jack can break a basic frame fit preventive if you have enough gap, wear googles especially in the case of old type single pane sash windows should the pane shatter under stress.
