TRACKING DEVICES & SOS ALERT

Primarily i bought one for the dinghy should an emergency occur although since then i have purchased several more of these units as i have realized their potential regards emergency, safety, recovery and can be simply converted as an alarm too. For around £10 i consider them a worthwhile buy. Ebay, Amazon etc.

Note: These are not a recommended form of marine SOS communication as they rely on the mobile phone system

Small, compact, with rechargeable battery
Features include the a 'listen in' option through the units microphone, the ability of being able to track or obtain the location of said tracker and the SOS option on the unit to send an emergency alert.  You can dedicate more than one mobile telephone number if you desire to do so. This particular model comes with a USB charger lead, simple instructions with built in rechargeable battery.

Just add a basic PAYG SIM card
Access is only available to the phone numbers you authorize. Lots of models about, be aware though not all will work in the U.K so purchasing from a U.K supplier is advisable. If you wish to check whether the model you are looking at will work in The U.K you can check the frequencies here :

Emergency SOS button

                                                              Basic breakdown

Applications for this could include SOS alert, anti kidnap (consider hiding in clothing lining or sew in an internal velcro pocket to clothing, anti theft of items or vehicles, tracking, remote listening in on specific areas (the mic can be operated via the dedicated mobile), auto dial trip or door alarm, panic attack etc.

                                Emergency / SOS.
Wired to a button for SOS alert on the dinghy, similar could be done at home with a hidden press switch for a panic attack alert.

Wires for external switch (push to make)

For a cheap auto dial alarm you could attach to a magnetic reed switch on a door, ensure the reed switch you use is normally open for this then connect to the SOS button.

                                  As a perimeter alarm.
Especially good for a distance such as allotments etc, get an alert upon activation using a trip alarm. Mount the unit in a box place firmly, screw switch part of a reed switch to box and attach magnet part with either double sided tape or blu tak (be weather aware here you could cover the box) and run trip from magnet to secure point so will detach upon trip. You can add a mini solar cell to the box or run one to it to ensure unit remains charged (what you need will depend in the battery of your unit) Some trackers may indeed have slightly different functionings which you will have to adapt around. Works well, example below.
