GARDENING WITH SCRAP CONTAINERS

Just a few ideas for using scrap containers in your garden or on your balcony, either for bringing on or growing fully. Ensure any container you may implement has suitable drainage and has the correct depth for which you wish to grow
Old tyres, free and also stackable for depth, give them a quick spray to make them more appealing so your garden doesn't end up looking like a scrap yard ha
Simply add a sheet of glass to propagate, you now have a greenhouse and a garden in one.
This method works well, for food or flowers

REMEMBER TUBS ARE APT TO DRY OUT QUICKER SO ENSURE YOU WATER ENOUGH

You can grow quite a lot once you have a few tyres together and being virtually indestructible unlike plastic tubs they last forever
Don't forget the flowers !
Other items deemed as scrap can also be used in the garden if given a little thought. Here is a cable drum table and tub holder for rhubarb
A bath creates a mini oasis for bugs, great for some serious messy fun too

ENSURE THE CONTAINER YOU USE HAS ADEQUATE PROVISION FOR DRAINAGE UNLESS YOU WANT A MICRO SWAMP IN YOUR GARDEN

When i say you can use any container, being ridiculous here, a single seed in a toy car tyre

Even these . . .
Bringing on with egg containers, plastic food containers and drinks cans

IF USING CARDBOARD EGG CONTAINERS WATER WELL AS THEY DRY OUT QUICKLY

A plastic food container with lid makes a great propagator
Drinks cans can be put to good use for seedling
Using your used tea bags.

No soil bringing on before planting using a plastic cup and wet paper towel.
Using a scrap / spare bin to collect rain water. I made a basic rainwater collector with an old recycle bin and some salvaged washing machine hose

DECENT RESULTS MAY REQUIRE ADDING NUTRIENTS IN A CONTAINER ENVIRONMENT

Thinking about mini pond, a large container could be either sunk or stood in your garden/balcony for use as a micro pond, this one is a disused baby bath. A little pond will bring a whole new group of insects to your garden becoming a mini ecosystem

NEVER ALLOW YOUR POND TO DRY OUT ONCE ESTABLISHED

Create some lighting for your garden with homemade paraffin can lamps, cut a can, hole for wick, i used old shoelace, paraffin into bottom half, slip together (small slit in top half). Works well

JUST FOR FUN
Ideal for growing people, plant some today : )
Planting kids? allow for growth !

CONSIDER THE DEPTH OF YOUR CONTAINER IN RELATION TO WHAT YOU INTEND TO GROW
