Here's a brief look at eye protection. Damaging your sight is a disaster in itself, during a disaster even more so that could cost you your life.
Most certainly it is practical to keep a pair of impact resistant goggles in your vehicle, also useful if your driving without a screen. During a disaster dust and other matter could indeed be in the air, you don't want it in your eyes. Wear prescription glasses? Remember to have some back up glasses, i always have a small magnifying glass on me, i need glasses for close up and find carrying that is better for me on the very odd occasion i need it when out and about.
Many activities related to general prepping could be considered an eye risk such as chopping, severe weather, epi/pandemic, ballistics, swimming and more.
As with any PPE equipment your specific requirement of protection will be related to the task at hand, the scenario you are covering and the actual ocular risk it poses.
Ensure your protective is marked with a standards logo / number.
